This specific wallpaper collection was inspired by the architectural and decorative details dotting the contemporary Cairo scape. Balat was inspired by the hand poured encaustic flooring lining the entrances of mid twentieth century Cairene buildings. The colours used are subtle and the patterns are patched from different entrances to create a novel harmonious look. The ‘sheesh’ collection is inspired by the handmade wooden shutters adorning the windows and balcony doors of most structures in the city. The way they are organised, and the colour variation is meant to render them a playful element. As for the ‘Suhaymi’ panel, it is inspired by the rich wooden trellis work (mashrabeyya) of one of Cairo’s oldest residential edifices and is meant to provide an interesting story to the walls of the room it adorns.
